Typhoon Bualoi Wreaks Havoc Across Central Vietnam
According to local media, the storm inflicted significant damage, including the destruction of homes, disruption of electricity supply, and forced emergency evacuations across several areas.
Despite the cyclone having made landfall, the National Hydrometeorological Agency cautioned that the likelihood of intense rainfall, flash flooding, and landslides remains extremely elevated in the upcoming days.
At least one fatality has been confirmed after a victim was swept away by floodwaters in the city of Hue. In addition, an English-language outlet reported that twelve fishermen are currently unaccounted for after enormous waves capsized four fishing vessels near Quang Tri province.
As of 8 a.m. local time (0100 GMT), the storm had moved over Nghe An province, with its maximum wind velocity declining to 88 kilometers (54 miles) per hour from the 117 kilometers (72 miles) per hour recorded when it initially hit land.
Meteorologists issued further warnings of potential large-scale flooding from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh provinces, along with a pronounced threat of sudden floods and landslides in the western regions of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.
Additionally, localized waterlogging is anticipated in the southern section of the Northern Delta, primarily due to the relentless downpour associated with the storm.
In preparation for the typhoon’s arrival, government officials relocated nearly 30,000 residents to safety.
Meanwhile, air travel was heavily affected as hundreds of flights were either grounded or delayed following the closure of four airports located in central provinces.
